Special Educational Needs

At Hollybush, we believe that every child is unique and full of potential. We are proud to be an inclusive school where all children are welcomed, supported, and encouraged to achieve their very best, both in their learning and personal development.

We know that some children may need a little extra help from time to time, and we are committed to making sure those needs are understood and met. Our staff work hard to spot any challenges early on, so that the right support can be put in place quickly and effectively. This might include using special resources, giving extra support in small groups, or adapting lessons to help your child succeed.

In the classroom, we focus on what’s known as Quality First Teaching. Our teachers plan and deliver high-quality, inclusive lessons that are carefully designed to engage all learners. They use a range of teaching strategies and adapt their approaches to meet individual needs within the classroom. We make sure that lessons are engaging and that children are supported in a way that works best for them.

We also work closely with a range of professionals and services outside of school. These include:
SENIT – the Special Educational Needs and Inclusion Team
SENSAP – who help with the process of getting an Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP)
SENDIASS – a service offering advice and support to families

We may also involve specialists such as Speech and Language Therapists, Educational Psychologists or Occupational Therapists when needed.
We firmly believe that working in partnership with parents and carers is essential to the success of our SEND provision. Families know their children best, and we value their input and insight. By maintaining open, honest communication and involving families in decision-making, we can work together to provide the best outcomes for each child. At Hollybush, pupil voice is also central to our approach—we listen to children, involve them in their own learning journey, and ensure they feel respected and heard.
To find out more about how we support children with SEND at Hollybush, please take a look at our SEND Information Report and SEND Policy. These explain how we support children with additional needs and what you can expect from us.

You can also visit the Leeds SEND Local Offer, which provides information about the support available to children and families across the city.
